At the heart of Eide Fjordbruk's definition of sustainability lies the idea of preserving the fjord and the environment so that others can harvest from nature in the same way they have done. Eide works every day to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions, so it was only natural for them to electrify one of their workboats.

Reducing carbon emissions and improving working conditions on board

As part of the effort to reduce emissions, Eide has invested in electric propulsion from Frydenbø for one of their workboats. By replacing the existing diesel engine with an electric motor from Danfoss Editron, this marks the beginning of a more sustainable motorization of boats in aquaculture.

The electric motor, known for its reliability and high performance, is well-suited for smaller vessels. By using electric power, Eide Fjordbruk not only reduces its carbon emissions but also significantly improves working conditions on board.

"There is a significant reduction in onboard noise, which greatly improves the working conditions for the crew. At the same time as we reduce emissions, we also significantly reduce maintenance costs. A win-win for everyone. Jørn Andre Lauritsen, Boat Manager - Eide Fjordbruk"

The new electric propulsion motors are connected to the existing HVP 25 gearbox. This integrated system provides the boat with smooth propulsion while utilizing existing infrastructure to reduce costs.

The battery pack on the boat has a capacity of 176 kWh

In addition to the battery pack, there is also an electric HPU for operating cranes and other necessary operations on board. This eliminates the need for hydraulic systems powered by fossil fuels, further reducing environmental impact.

We have also installed a marine generator with a capacity of 60 KVA. The generator contributes to charging the battery pack and provides the ability to extend the range. The hybrid system, where we combine the advantages of electric propulsion with the flexibility of conventional power sources, helps ensure operation under all conditions.

Eide Fjordbruk is ambitious in its commitments to reduce the company's environmental footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future for the aquaculture industry. We at Frydenbø are proud that our technology can help make the industry "greener."
