Due to a scheduled workshop stay lasting from October to December, the ship is currently undergoing necessary upgrades while in dock at Bergen. Frydenbø, with their extensive history with the ship, is once again part of the team dedicated to enhancing Bergen's pride.Lehmkuhl is one of the world's largest sailing ships in full operation all year round, and she is designed to sail on the open sea. Most of Statsraad Lehmkuhl's "peers" around the world are either museum vessels or have ended up on the scrap heap. But here at home, we have taken very good care of our ship, among other things with the help of skilled professionals from Frydenbø.
Maritime electricians - specialist skills you can trust at sea
Electricians in Frydenbø have specialist expertise in maritime electronics and navigation, and play a crucial role in maintaining, improving and modernizing electrical systems on ships and vessels.
Our electricians have thorough training and understanding of electrical safety, which is absolutely essential given the challenging conditions and potential risks found at sea. They must be able to identify and manage potential hazards and ensure that all electrical installations meet strict safety standards, whether it is a single ship from 1914 or new hybrid systems being installed in 2023.
Sindre ensures utmost safety on the ship by overseeing fire alarm implementation.
Electricians from Frydenbø ensure that the control system works optimally and is correctly calibrated.
Major upgrades
Frydenbø, as a subcontractor of Endur Maritime, has carried out several upgrades of the almost 100 meter long ship. Maritime electricians from Frydenbø have, among other things, installed heating cables and ventilation in the new showers and changing rooms on board. On long sea voyages, the new shower facilities will be nice to have to maintain good hygiene and well-being on the ship.
Upgrading the lights on board the Staatsraad Lehmkul. The new interior lighting helps to create a good atmosphere on board and combines style with functionality in the beautiful ship.
New cables along the forward side and an old familiarity in the steering system
Troubleshooting the electrical system on board a sailing vessel is an important part of the maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation. When a fault was discovered on the lantern during the workshop stay, this naturally had to be rectified. With a mast that stretches 48 meters above the waterline, it was an airy affair for our maritime electricians, but they took the challenge head on.
Upon discovering the fault, our skilled electricians swiftly took action and expertly installed brand new cables. An impressive 80 meters of fresh cables were carefully replaced, guaranteeing that the issue will not resurface in the future.
In the process of calibrating the rudder, our electricians found an old acquaintance on board. In 1936, Frydenbø developed a rack and pinion steering machine - an innovation for the coastal fleet at the time. This is still in several ships to this day, including the venerable Statraad Lehmkuhl.
